Veteran trainer Joel Diaz has gone up against Manny Pacquiao on two occasions. Diaz prepared former two-division world champion Timothy Bradley for two bouts against the Filipino star. Bradley won a controversial split decision in the first bout and dropped a unanimous twelve round decision to Pacquiao in 2014.
Pacquiao has been out of the ring since losing to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in May. He injured his right shoulder during the contest and plans to fight again in the first quarter of 2016.
One of the opponents being discussed is British star Amir Khan, who had previously trained side by side with Pacquiao when the two of them were under the guidance of Freddie Roach.
If the two of them fight, and Khan comes out on top, then Diaz strongly believes Pacquiao is done as a fighter and has no business fighting any further.
"If Manny Pacquiao fights Amir Khan and loses to Amir Khan, he has no more business in boxing. Amir Khan got knocked out by Danny Garcia, he’s been in the ins and out. Losing to Amir Khan, boxing has no more sense for him," Diaz said to On The Ropes Boxing Radio.
If not Khan, there are several opponents who Diaz would like to see Pacquiao face in his comeback fight.
"Right now there’s really not much for Pacquiao but Amir Khan would be a great opponent for Pacquiao. There’s a few out there too for Manny Pacquiao, there’s Danny Garcia. I would like to see Manny Pacquiao fight a fighter like Keith Thurman, something like that. Are we gonna see it? I don’t know. There are a lot of fighters out there that deserve an opportunity and deserve a chance to match up against some of the top elite fighters in the sport," Diaz said.
