Kevin Cunningham, manager and trainer of IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander, advised BoxingScene.com that his boxer should be fully recovered in six weeks from a right bicep injury.
Earlier today Alexander (21-1, 13KOs) withdrew from a scheduled defense against Kell Brook (29-0, 19KOs). The fight was set to headline a Showtime televised card on February 23rd in Detroit.
It was the second postponement for the fight. It was originally scheduled for January 19th at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, and later postponed when Brook withdrew with an ankle injury.
Alexander injured his right bicep on Thursday as he was throwing a hook on the heavybag. After landing the punch Alexander felt immediate pain.
"Everything was going perfect. It was one of Devon's best training camps," Cunningham told BoxingScene.com.
The injury will require three weeks of treatment, says Cunningham, and the boxer will be unable to use his arm during that period of time.
The February event will still go forward at the Masonic Temple Theater in downtown Detroit. IBF 154-pound champion Cornelius "K9" Bundrage has been moved to the main event position. He defends the title against tough challenger Ishe Smith.
