In a vicious, grueling fight, Deivis Boschiero (32-1-1, 15 KOs) retained his European super featherweight title for the first time by decisioning his compatriot Antonio De Vitis (25-3-1, 14 KOs) unanimously over twelve rounds.
Boschiero, 31, looked to get some success fighting visibly shorter De Vitis at long range. With his jab he was able to keep his foe at bay in the first round and rocked De Vitis with a right hand at the very end of the stanza. The pattern for an entire match had been set and remained mostly the same throughout the bout. De Vitis tried to get inside but elusive and tricky "Boom-Boom" Boschiero used his awkward style of fighting to get himself out of the harm's way. The champion didn't run from his opponent but moved laterally with an increasing speed, not forgetting to land jabs and body punches.
Boschiero also exchanged punches with the challenger on occasion, and those spurts got more frequent as the bout progressed. As for De Vitis he was unable to pull the trigger on Boschiero, except for the fifth round, when he used his body punches and long right hands to deliver some damage to his foe. It wasn't enough to grant him a victory though.
BoxingScene saw it 117-112 - for Deivis Boschiero. The Italian is ranked #3 by the WBC, #7 by the WBO, #10 by the IBF and #14 by the WBA at 130 lbs. He is best known for his highly controversial split loss to Takahiro Aoh a year ago in a bid for the WBC title. He was partially avenged tonight by the Mexican Gamaliel Diaz, who upset the Japanese boxer and took his title.

Hard-hitting lightweight Luca Giacon (21-0, 19 KOs) got another victory over a familiar opponent. The 24-year old boxer-puncher, nicknamed "The Black Mamba", stopped tough Latvian journeyman Jevgenijs Kirillovs (12-17-1, 9 KOs), a year his younger, at 1:31 of the fourth. In July 2012, Giacon scored the very same TKO 4 win over Kirillovs, but it was injury-induced. Kirillovs possesses a deceiving record but he has never been previously knocked out in any of his losses (his three TKO defeats were based on an injury, on a cut, and on a retirement during the break) and has several upsets to his resume. Giacon, one of the best young guns in European boxing, is ranked #9 by the WBC and #12 by the WBA. He is also a mandatory challenger for the EBU crown.

Cruiserweight prospect Mirko Larghetti moved up to 17-0, 10 KOs, with the third-round kayo of Croatian trialhorse Tony Visic (5-7-1, 2 KOs).

In a minor upset, 21-year old Hungarian flyweight Renata Szebeledi (16-9, 10 KOs) avenged her earlier career loss to famed Italian veteran Simona Galassi (17-2-1, 3 KOs), 19 years her older, and stopped her in three rounds. Szebeledi was in Galassi's face from round one, using her jab and adding hard right hands on any possible occasion. Galassi just wasn't strong and young enough for her daughter-like opponent (in terms of their age).
Galassi was down once after an impressive left-right combo of Szebeledi and was saved by referee Guido Cavalleri in the third from further punishment from the Hungarian blonde
Szebeledi started her career at 16 with five straight losses but then began to notch wins, mostly in her native land and in neighboring Slovakia. She previously lost to Galassi on a close unanimous decision for Simona's IBF 112lb title in April 2012. This time, Szebeledi captured a vacant WBC interim title in the very same weight class in the biggest victory of her career. WBC regular champion is American Ava Knight, who upset long-time Mexican flyweight queen "La Barbie" Juarez two weeks ago.
