Oscar De La Hoya has finally gotten mad towards comments made against him by Floyd Mayweather, Jr. The two fighters were in Miami, Florida doing some promotional work for their upcoming May 5 pay-per-view, which takes place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
He said that Mayweather made negative comments about him during the appearance in Florida, and that was exactly the kind of thing he needed to get fully motivated to do some damage.
"I'll tell you what. Floyd Mayweather made a big mistake today. He started talking negatively about me, and that's just what I needed. It got me motivated. For that reason I'm glad I came today," De La Hoya said.
Mayweather responded in kind, voicing his opinion that De La Hoya is not going to make to the final round.
"I'll stop him whenever he gets in my way. I'm the best fighter on the planet," Mayweather said.
De La Hoya told UK media outlet ITV that not only would he welcome a clash with IBF junior welterweight champion Ricky Hatton, he would actually head over to England to make the fight. De La Hoya said he would move down to the welterweight limit of 147-pounds, if Hatton was willing to move back up.
"I don't know whether Mayweather will be my last fight, I'll make a decision once it's all over. After that the fight I would like the most is Ricky Hatton. I'd love to come to England to fight him," De La Hoya said. "It would be a great fight and I'm in the business of making great fights. He's like a bull, he just keeps on coming. He needs to keep on drinking those pints of Guinness, don't stop him!"
