According to a recent report by Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports, Oscar De La Hoya finalized a three-fight deal with Floyd Mayweather Sr. on Thursday. Mayweather Sr. will train De La Hoya for his May tune-up, the September rematch with his son, Floyd Mayweather Jr., and a third possible bout in December. After the deal was made, De La Hoya phoned recent trainer Freddie Roach, who trained him for last May's bout with Mayweather, and advised him of the deal.

"I just think Mayweather is the guy to train me for this fight, because he knows how to beat that style (that Mayweather Jr. has). It's nothing at all against Freddie," De La Hoya said.

The first bout, on May 3, will likely come against Contender star and former champion Steve Forbes. De La Hoya tells Iole that negotiations are still being worked out to secure Forbes.

"That's the opponent I want and hopefully we can iron out the details," De La Hoya said of Forbes. "Obviously, our choice is for it to be on HBO."
