During the first episode of HBO's reality series Mayweather-Ortiz 24/7, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and his father, Floyd Mayweather Sr., were involved in a heated shouting match at the Mayweather Boxing Club in Las Vegas, Nevada. During the verbal war, Floyd Jr. questioned his father's credentials as a trainer. The Mayweathers began to argue over which of the two brothers, Floyd Sr. or Roger Mayweather, were responsible for making Floyd Jr. the champion that he is today.

Floyd Jr. told his father - "that's why Ricky Hatton left you, that's why Oscar De La Hoya left you." and later said - "like I said before, Roger Mayweather made the Mayweather name and I took it to the next level. And when it’s all said and done there are only two Mayweathers who count; Roger Mayweather and Floyd Mayweather."

But De La Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions, who handle the career of Mayweather's September opponent, Victor Ortiz, countered Floyd Jr.'s verbal jab and called Floyd Sr. the "best trainer period."

"For the record, I never left Floyd Sr. He was, and is, the best trainer period," De La Hoya said.
