According to Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya, WBC junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez knocked out Nobohiro Ishida in a sparring session on Monday. Alvarez and Ishida are training in Guadalajara, Mexico for their scheduled fights on November 26th. Alvarez faces Kermit Cintron in the HBO televised main event. Ishida, represented by Canelo's promotional company, will fight on the undercard.
"Spoke to Canelo today and [he] sounded happy and confident about his training camp. Told me he knocked out Ishida in sparring today," De La Hoya wrote on his Twitter page.
In other news, Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer told Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated that Alvarez's team reached out and expressed their willingness to face mandatory challenger James Kirkland, who won a WBC eliminator on Saturday night with a sixth round stoppage of Alfredo Angulo.
Ishida, who fights on Canelo's undercard in a few weeks, returns for the first time since a shocking first round stoppage of Kirkland in April.
