Tyson Fury’s former trainer, Ben Davison, still believes his ex-student will come away with the win when he faces WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder in a high stakes rematch.

Their second meeting takes place on February 22 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Davison trained Fury for the first encounter, and guided the corner of the 'Gypsy King' in his last five fights.

Last month, Fury made an unexpected decision to part ways with Davison. He has since hired Kronk Gym trainer SugarHill Steward.

“When you look at the Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder first fight, he boxed around Deontay Wilder rather than coming straight at him,” Davison said to Daily Star.

“99% of the boxing world believe that he won that fight so I understand from Tyson’s point of view where he’s thinking ‘Okay, I outboxed him, won the fight and didn’t get the decision so I have to try and take it out of the judges’ hands’. Tyson’s been talking a lot about going for the knockout and I definitely wouldn’t write Tyson off being able to do so. It’s not exactly the approach that I would decide on taking but that doesn’t mean it’s wrong.

“Wilder will be a lot more patient in this fight, I think he’ll look to set it up a lot more than he did in the previous fight where he was a little bit over eager. It’s easy for people to see where he’s come from but being there 24/7 to see the depths that he’s got to and the heights that he’s got to it’s a lot more personal. The fact that we are not in business together does not take away the friendship side of things.

“I think Tyson will probably come in at about 18 stone 10lbs, I know he’s put on some functional muscle mass. They’re both two super elite level fighters but I just believe the Tyson’s got that extra something special.”
