David Price will return to the ring again next week.
The Liverpool heavyweight, who dispatched as a Ivica Perkovic inside two rounds in Germany on Saturday, has finally been confirmed as in addition to a show in his home city.
Price, now 21-3 with 18 early, will box on the undercard of Tony Bellew face WBC cruiserweight world title defence against colourful Californian BJ Flores, live on Sky Sports.
It was originally thought that Price, 33, would have to miss out on the Liverpool show after being added to a card on October 1 in Neubrandenburg, staged by his promoters Sauerland Event, on which Nathan Cleverly defeated Juergen Braehmer by TKO victory in round six to claim the WBA ‘regular’ light heavyweight world title, but Price will get another run out at the ECHO Arena in just over a week's time.
Promoter Eddie Hearn, of Matchroom Sport, is looking for the big heavyweight to win as a springboard for a potential fight on the undercard of Anthony Joshua's next world title defence.
Joseph Parker, the New Zealander who is currently Joshua's mandatory challenger, was being talked about as a potential opponent for Price for November 26 at Manchester Arena, live on Sky Sports Box Office.
But Hearn in an interview with Kugan Cassius of iFL TV recently said he is looking to make a fight with Dave Allen for that show.
Allen (9-1-1, 6 KOs) was originally set to be in the opposite corner to Price in Liverpool after agreeing to the terms of the contest, but negotiations dragged and the opportunity for that fight on such short notice fell away.
“We’re looking for a better opponent [than the one Price boxed in Germany],” Hearn told iFL TV.
“That wasn’t my pick last week, but Pricey needs rounds under his belt and he’s in a tough position because he’s calling out the big fights and when you have fights like that [against Ivica Perkovic] then people are going to give you stick, but he doesn’t really want fights like that.
“We need to find a guy [to put in with Price next Saturday] who looks better, fights better and takes a shot better.
“Pricey can punch, it’s good to have him on the bill in Liverpool and I think he’s going to be a big part of the heavyweight mix.”
Boxing Scene reached out to Allen, regarding the possibility of a clash against the Liverpudlian next month, and he said: “[That fight] would be all my Christmases come at once.
“[I’ve not been spoken to about it yet] but I think they’ll get [October 15] out [of the] way first [and] then come to me about it.
“But I will start training camp straight away just in case.”
