Contrary to reports, Ishe Smith (22-5), based in Las Vegas, will not face rising middleweight star David Lemieux (24-0) on December 3 at the Bell Centre. Lemieux will appear in the main event on the second edition of the "Fast and Dangerous" series. Smith was offered the fight by Canadian promoter Goupe Yvon Michel, but he explained through several social networks that he turned the offer down because there wasn't enough time to get ready for the contest.
"People keep asking Me If I'm fighting Lemieux, No, I am not. It's a fight I want. The fight was offered to me for December 3rd but that was too soon," Smith said.
Lemieux, who is currently training in Miami, will be a careful observer of the fight between Paul Williams and Sergio Martinez. As he told the site RueFrontenac.com, Lemieux favors Martinezto win. He is considered more complete and faster than Williams. Lemieux, who would face Marco Antonio Rubio (48-5-1) in April as part of a WBC eliminator, would not hesitate to accept a fight against Williams or Martinez if either was offered to him in 2011.
Moreover, Netboxe.com/BoxingScene.com has learned from a source who is generally well informed, that lightweight Ghislain Maduma (1-0-0), who scored his first victory last Nov. 11 during a gala presented at Corona Theatre, should appear on the December 3 card. The name of his rival is not yet confirmed. Maduma, from Montreal but a native of Congo, and led by Mike Moffa, had participated in the world championships in 2007 while he was in the amateurs.
The main fight card will feature Renan St-Juste (21-2-1) and Sebastien Demers (31-3-0) fighting in the co-feature. As for prospect Arash Usmanee (9-0-0), he will try to get his hands on the NABA title when he faces Mexican Pedro Navarette (25-9-3).
