According to Perth Now, the decision to declare Paul Briggs' infamous 29-second fight with Danny Green a sham has reportedly been overturned. Briggs ended an almost four-year haitus when he was enticed out of retirement by Green to fight for the IBO cruiserweight title in July, 2010. The much-hyped fight ended in a fiasco when Briggs fell to his knees just 29 seconds into the first round.
The challenger was then fined $75,000 and the fight labelled a "sham" following an investigation by the WA Professional Combat Sports Commission, which simultaneously cleared Green of any wrong doing. The WAPCSC's findings decreed that Briggs did not take sufficient steps to make his fragile mental state known to fight organisers and suggested he took a dive.
Howver, Briggs announced the decision had been overturned by "three high court judges. In my appeal against the decision that my fight with Danny Green was fixed and I took a dive has been overturned in a court of law by three high court judges. It's been ruled the fight was legitimate and (five) weeks prep was insufficient time to prepare after 3.5 yrs off."
