WBC Light Welterweight champion Danny Garcia will be christening the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY with its first boxing event October 20th. While the venue is new, his opponent will be a familiar one as he will be having a rematch with Mexican legend Erik “El Terrible” Morales in the main event.

Their first fight earlier this year in Houston saw Garcia being too much for the Mexican veteran as he won a hard fought Unanimous Decision and became a world champion for the first time in his young career. While Garcia is confident he will once again be victorious, he will approach this rematch a little differently.

“I feel like the first fight I gave him too much respect. I let him stay in the fight too long. I just feel this time I’m not going to give him a lot of respect. I’m going to step on the gas from round one and hit him with a lot of hard shots and try to get the job done” Garcia told The Boxing Lab, BoxingScene’s official radio show.

Morales had gallbladder surgery late last year which forced a postponement to the fight which was originally supposed to take place in January. Morales feels he wasn’t entirely 100% due to recovery from the surgery and says it will be different this time around.
This could possibly be Morales’ last chance at getting a world title and Garcia expects for the veteran to bring his best to the table.

“I know this fight is going to better than the first fight for sure. I know he’s going to be more prepared. He might’ve underestimated me the first fight so I know he’s going to come more prepared and more hungry” said Garcia.

“I know he wants to end his career up on a great note by beating a young champion but I’m too hungry man. I just put my face in the big picture and I want to be here for a long time. I know what he wants, I know his hunger but he’s fighting a real dangerous opponent. A young hungry champion in me and I just want to give the fans a great fight man and that’s what we’re going to do October 20th”.
