Two-division world champion Danny “Swift” Garcia is still being mentioned as a frontrunner candidate to face Manny Pacquiao in the coming months.
On January 25th, Garcia will face hard-hitting Ivan “El Terrible” Redkach in a WBC welterweight title eliminator at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The contest will be televised by Showtime.
Pacquiao has been out of the ring since July 2019, when he shocked Keith Thurman to win a twelve round unanimous decision to capture the WBA welterweight title.
Pacquiao is expected to return at some point in the first half of 2020.
Garcia has two defeats on his ledger, which were both close twelve round decision to Thurman and Shawn Porter.
There are numerous options for Pacquiao's first defense of the WBA strap - with Garcia, Mikey Garcia and Shawn Porter being the three opponents who are being mentioned on a regular basis.
But Garcia is not convinced that Pacquiao actually wants to fight him. Garcia feels confident that he possesses the proper physical attributes to defeat Pacquiao in the ring.
Should they ever collide, Garcia sees himself winning the bout in a strong fashion and sending Pacquiao into retirement.
“They just sayin’ it cause of the hype. And then when it come down to it nobody really wanna fight. Pacman said it and then he fought Thurman. So he’s sayin it again but let’s see,” Garcia stated to Fighthype.com.
“Manny Pacquiao is a legend I respect him but Danny Garcia is a legend killer! I have better timing than Keith (Thurman) and I have better one-punch knockout power than Keith. And I’m a better counter-puncher than Keith,” Garcia responded when asked about how he would be able to finish Pacquiao."
