Danny Garcia has vowed to "kick the butt" of Lamont Peterson when the two world champions clash in Brooklyn this weekend.

Garcia (29-0 17KOs) is the current WBC and WBA super world light-welterweight champion and even though Peterson holds the IBF strap, this bout on Saturday night is a non-title catchweight contest made at 143lbs.

However, 27-year-old Garcia - who stopped Briton Amir Khan in four rounds back in July 2012- insists it remains an important clash and one he has prepared fully for.

"It's a big fight and it's the fight that the fans wanted. We're going to give the fans a great night of boxing," he said.

"I'm ready for whatever Peterson brings. If he tries to box then I'm going to go with that and if he wants to fight, I'll be ready. I'm not going to go in and just try to knock his head off, I'm going to be Danny Garcia.

"We have common opponents like [Amir] Khan and [Lucas Martin] Matthysse and we've had different results.  They say styles make fights so those results don't matter. Well, my style is to kick his butt.

"I'd love to be fighting on the biggest stage in boxing against the Mayweather and Pacquiaos, but for now it's just about taking it one fight at a time, this is history in the making.

"A lot of things have changed for me in the last few years, everybody knows me now. A lot of people look at you different now but it doesn't make my head bigger, it just motivates me to work hard."

Peterson (33-2-1 17KOs) edged past Khan by way of a split decision back in 2011 and was beaten inside three rounds by Matthysse, who was beaten on points by Garcia.

Peterson, 31, goes into the fight as the underdog and Angel Garcia - father and trainer of Danny - is struggling to see where his opponent's pre-fight confidence is coming from.

"I'll give Peterson credit for putting the gloves on," he said. "He thinks it's going to be an easy night for him. He sees himself already on top of the mountain. It's not going to happen like that, we're going to ruin his party.

"I want Peterson to act confident and come forward. They're talking like Danny isn't special but he lost to the guys we beat.

"We're not going to train for eight weeks to go in there and worry about what Peterson is going to do, we're going to do what we have to do. We train to go in there and win."
