LONDON, England – Daniel Lapin maintained his unbeaten record with an untidy victory over Lewis Edmondson at Wembley Stadium.

The bout lacked in drama until it went to the scorecards. The first tally, of 95-95, was over-ruled by two cards of 96-94 in the Ukrainian’s favor, and there was not much between them in an uneventful 10-rounder.

It was scrappy and untidy. Edmondson was trying to capitalize on his big win over Dan Azeez last October. The British and Commonwealth champion has since defeated Oluwatosin Kejawa – who was also 11-0 at the time – but this was a fight where both were reluctant to engage. Lapin flashed over some left hands in the third while Edmondson landed a counter left hook, but it was not Gatti-Ward.

It was an ugly clash of styles and neither boxer was able to establish control, let alone dominance. Edmondson scored with a couple of rights in the fourth, but Lapin claimed him and it was soon as you were.

There was little between them. Lapin picked up a warning for holding in the seventh, arms were often tangled and little of consequence landed. Lapin fired off a volley of shots to close the seventh, but the Southampton fighter took them on the arms and gloves.

Twice in the eighth Lapin was nearly sent over the top rope as the fighters mauled, and Edmondson picked up a verbal warning from Marcus McDonnell for hitting his man on the back of the head as the bout got uglier.

McDonnell spoke to them both about their antics in the ninth. Lapin began to work some openings with his left hand but Edmondson beat his gloves together and more holding and mauling followed.

The crowd cheered ironically as Lapin put more shots together near the end of the round.

Lapin edged the 10th, threading through a neat uppercut and making Edmondson miss with his occasional attempts.

Edmondson punched the air at the bell and was held aloft by his team, but he reluctantly nodded when the scorecards were read out.

Lapin was ranked No. 15 by the IBF, with the Englishman at No. 14. Lapin was also No. 8 with the WBA.
