Lewis Edmondson, the British and Commonwealth light heavyweight champion, has been forced out of Saturday's bout with Ezra Taylor which was scheduled to take place on the undercard of Joseph Parker-Fabio Wardley at London's O2 Arena. "Minor setback, we'll be back soon," said Edmondson, who looks set to be replaced by Steed Woodall.
Edmondson, 11-1 (3 KOs), won the titles 12 months ago when he defeated Dan Azeez over 12 rounds in a minor upset. It has been reported that he sustained a hip injury in the final stages of training camp, opening the door for Woodhall in the process.
Birmingham, England's Woodall, 20-3-1 (12 KOs), had been in training to fight in Hull in early November. The 31-year-old scored the biggest win of his career in June 2024 when he halted then-unbeaten Lerrone Richards in six rounds only to lose, inside two, to Callum Simpson in a bid for the British and Commonwealth super middleweight titles in January this year.
Nottingham, England's Taylor, 12-0 (8 KOs), is yet to fight a 12-rounder. He defeated Troy Jones, on points over 10, in May. Woodhall, like Edmondson would have been, represents the toughest assignment of his career to date.
