REIGNING champion Celso Danggod takes on former titlist Joel Escol in the main event of promoter Dante S. Almario’s “Bakbakan sa Alabang part III” card on March 27 in Alabang, Muntinlupa City, Philippines.
The non-title, but important fight is set in 10-round at the super flyweight limit, which makes Danggod add on some pounds while Escol will trim exactly six pounds from his comfortable weight limit.
The diminutive Danggod, 29, is the reigning World Boxing Empire (WBE) flyweight champion. He captured the belt in expense of Sukarno Banjao with unanimous decision win on June of 2005 in Antipolo City.
Danggod will risk in the fight his No. 5 ranking in the Philippines/World Boxing Organization Asia Pacific and his No. 9 rank by the Pan Asian Boxing Association.
The 24-year old Escol, the 5-foot-6 southpaw, is remember as the unknown boxer from Valenzuela City but nearly made a name for himself after scoring a knockout in round six over in April 2005 in Thailand over Fahsai Sakkririn to win the IBF pan pacific super bantamweight crown.
Other bouts in card being supported by Barangay captain Victor Ulanday of Alabang are scheduled for two other 10-round clash between WBE junior flyweight king Jun Arlos of Paranaque City versus Danny Linaza of Cavite City in 108-lb limit and Sonny Gonzales of Mandaluyong against Richard Laano of Biñan, Laguna in 123-lb.
Four other bouts, including two six-round and two four-round fights complete the composition of the card.
