WBA 154-pound champion Miguel Cotto (37-2, 30KOs) is not intimidated by the undefeated record of Floyd Mayweather Jr. (42-0, 26KOs). Cotto defends his title against Mayweather on May 5th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Cotto is a hefty underdog in the contest, but the Puerto Rican boxer is confident that he will add Mayweather's name to his list of undefeated victims - like Carlos Quintana, Paulie Malignaggi, Ricardo Torres, Carlos Maussa, Kelson Pinto and Yuri Foreman.
Last December's TKO victory over Antonio Margarito of Mexico, has rejuvinated his career, says Cotto. He plans to use an aggressive approach, similiar to the fight strategy that he put together to defeat Shane Mosley by way of a twelve round decision in 2007.
"Nobody is invincible. It's not the first time that I've faced someone who was unbeaten and overcame them. He wants my title and moved up to [my weight] division. That's being a real fighter, a true champion. I think [that I'm going to have to] fight like I did with [Shane] Mosley. I have to be aggressive and move well," said Cotto.
"[The Margarito] fight helped me regain things that I lost after the first loss to Margarito [in 2008]. [The win] restored my confidence in myself. I feel like I'm back."
Cotto's Cuban trainer, Pedo Diaz, says his fighter has everything that is necessary to get the big upset victory.
"You just have to use good tactics. And Miguel Cotto has all of the necessary technical tools, physical and competitive - to overcome [Mayweather]. Floyd Mayweather has great capabilities, but everything has a remedy," Diaz said.
