Puerto Rican featherweight Jayson 'La Maravilla' Velez is a likely candidate to appear on the undercard to the Miguel Cotto vs. Saul "Canelo" Alvarez HBO Pay-Per-View card. The event is being targeted for the month of November with the 21st being a strong candidate.

Velez's promotional ties have placed him at the head of the line to appear on the show. He is co-promoted by Golden Boy Promotions (who have Canelo) and Miguel Cotto Promotions.

A finalized agreement for Cotto-Canelo is expected in the coming days by both sides.

Gaby Peñagarícano, the legal adviser for both Cotto and Velez, confirmed the young boxer stands a good chance to appear on the show. Velez, who has a record of 23-0-1, 16 KO's, is coming off a June unanimous decision win over Mexico's Daniel Ramirez at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles. Prior to that he had a twelve round draw with then IBF champion Evgeny Gradovich.

"At the moment that is something that has not been determined. But I think (Jayson) is a logical candidate because he is linked to both companies. But it is something that has not been discussed, but he is a candidate," Penagaricano told ESPN Deportes.
