Former light heavyweight champion Clinton Woods is planning to return to action in September, with his focus on reclaiming the IBF title he lost to Antonio Tarver in April. After the loss, Woods was planning to retire, but then changed his mind. He wants to pay back the fans that flew to Florida to support him againt Tarver by winning a rematch.
"I feel I have a point to prove after losing to Tarver. That wasn't me in that ring," Woods told BBC Radio. "There's no way I want to call it a day after that performance. I know it's going to be tough and my next two fights will probably be more difficult than a world title fight, but I'm ready. I want to pay back my fans who spent a lot of money going to watch me in America."
Woods' promoter Dennis Hobson is supporting his fighter 100% and plans to bring him back around the target date.
"It's not going to be easy but Clinton feels he has something to prove. He had an off-night against Tarver but he's entitled to have a blip in his career. We hope to have him back in the ring in September. He's determined to win back his title," Hobson said.
