The legendary Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. has come to the defense of his son, WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., who continues to get verbally attacked by Sergio Martinez, who many recognize as the true champion at 160-pounds.
During a recent interview, Martinez said Chavez Jr. was "a mediocre fighter who doesn't have enough quality to carry the belt."
Chavez is likely going to fight on June 16th in Texas against British boxer Martin Murray. Chavez Sr. advised Martinez to keep his mouth shut, and in doing so a September fight might happen.
Chavez Sr. sent a message to Martinez - "Look, I respect you as a boxer, but stop talking sh*t and I guarantee the fight will happen in September. Tell your promoter to sit down with [Chavez's co-promoter] Fernando Beltran to reach an agreement. Everyone knows that nobody watches your fights. Barking dogs do not bite. I bet my entire career, my sweat and my success, that my son will defeat Martinez."
