Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. has no intention of backing away from a scheduled return on April 18th against Polish light heavyweight contender Andrzej Fonfara. The fight was announced earlier this week by the Mexican star.
Following his announcement, promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank told BoxingScene.com that he would do everything legally possible to prevent the fight.
Top Rank and Chavez are currently in a legal dispute over his contract. Chavez, who is now advised by manager Al Haymon, believes he is currently a free agent and Top Rank believe he still owes them one more fight.
"A few days ago [Arum] was saying that they were losing lots of money with me, then I do not know why he would want me in his company. And there are many things that I didn't like and they will surely be [discussed] in court if necessary...like negotiating my fights through my family, they wanted to force me to extend my contract that I did not agree with. There are delicate things that happened. The truth is he would have preferred that I retire, but the important thing is that I am preparing strong and all of those things will be handled by my team of lawyers, not me," Chavez told ESPN Deportes.
