Rodolfo Chavez was in the corner of his nephew, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., from 2003 until 2010 - when Julio brought on Freddie Roach as head coach. Nearly five years later, Rodolfo is back in the corner. Chavez Jr. will return on April 18th in California against the Polish light heavyweight contender Andrzej Fonfara.
The head trainer for the fight is Joe Goossen, with Tiburcio Garcia and Vladimir Valdenebro helping out in camp as well. It will be Chavez's first fight since last January. The fight will air on Showtime in the United States and Televisa in Mexico.
"I am pleased to be back with the team and with Julio. For me it's an honor to be back with him, for him to invite me after four years. Now I see my nephew as being much more focused, much stronger physically," Rodolfo told ESPN Deportes.
"I look at the weight [of 172-pounds] as benefiting him because he will not kill himself to make weight. Fonfara is a big fighter with a good defense, but Julio is bound to win and look good as he goes for the world title that has been proposed to him."
