As Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. faces Andrzej Fonfara on April 18th at the StubHub Center, it looks like his legal matter with his former promoter, Top Rank, has come to an end. The two sides had been locked in litigation with both of them having differing views on the length and validity of their promotional agreement.
But Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum told BoxingScene.com on Thursday - "It's been resolved to everyone's satisfaction and we're very satisfied with the resolution because it came out pretty good."
The veteran promoter would not disclose the details but industry sources believe that Top Rank received a seven-figure settlement.
For much of Chavez Jr's career he was co-promoted by Top Rank and Zanfer Promotions. In 2011 he was able to capture the vacant WBC middleweight title by out-pointing Sebastian Zbik at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. His rematch last March against Brian Vera was his last under the Top Rank banner.
After failed attempts to make a fight versus Gennady Golovkin - where Chavez Jr. balked at signing a contract extension with the company - the son of the Mexican legend signed with adviser Al Haymon.
