Former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., who grew his career on TV Azteca, will have his next fight showcased by rival Mexican network Televisa.

Chavez returns on April 18th in a light heavyweight fight against Andrzej Fonfara. In the United States, Chavez will be making his Showtime televised debut after generating high television ratings for several years for rival network HBO.

The Mexican star stated on the social networks - "Apparently my next fight is on Televisa. My father will be in my corner."

His father, the legendary Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., is part of the broadcast team for TV Azteca and tried to get his son to remain on the network.

Last year, Chavez severed his relationship with Top Rank and signed a deal with manager/adviser Al Haymon.

The question now, is whether Saul "Canelo" Alvarez - Chavez Jr.'s main TV rival in Mexico - will remain with Televisa or explore new ground with TV Azteca.

Promoter Fernando Beltran of Zanfer Promotions, who works exclusively with TV Azteca and for years worked with Julio, was stunned by the fighter's decision to walk across the street. Beltran also said the door is wide open for Canelo to come over if he wishes.

"I think it's a little hard to believe, having his dad commentating on a fight on Box Azteca and the son fighting on Televisa. Julio is a good friend of mine, I love him, I wish him well, but I can hardly get out of a Ferrari to get on a Volkswagen," said Beltran to ESPN Deportes.

"It's an interesting question [if Canelo will leave Televisa]. Azteca and myself would have no problem [with Canelo coming on]. We would welcome Canelo."
