The son of the legend, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (46-1-1, 32 KOs), is hoping to get some very big fights after Saturday's match against Brian Vera (23-6, 14 KOs), which takes place at the Stubhub Center in Carson, California. The fight is going to take place at a max weight of 173-pounds. Chavez last fought at the middleweight limit of 160-pounds, where he suffered his first career defeat against Sergio Martinez last September in Las Vegas. While his next fight is almost two divisions above the middleweight limit, and he had issues making 168, Chavez would be willing to make 160 again for two major fights - a rematch with Martinez and a grudge match with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.
"I am willing to go down to 160 pounds to face Martinez. Obviously to go down to 160-pounds it would have to be for a big fight like Martinez, because it would require a great sacrifice for my body [to make the weight]. [Me against Canelo] would be a great fight. I could get down to 160 pounds if he wanted, but as you know [making that fight] would be complicated because [of our] promoters [not working together]. I'm not interested in a [Marco Antonio] Rubio fight, because people are not interested and because I already beat him," Chavez said.
As far as the super middleweight limit, Chavez wants to face the world champions.
"I would like to face Andre Ward or Carl Froch at 168 pounds," Chavez said.
