WBC silver middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. said he was hurt by inactivity in Saturday's ten round decision win against Billy Lyell in Culiacan, Mexico. After ten rounds, Chavez (42-0-1, 30 KO's) was up 99-92, 96-94 and 98-92. It was tthe first bout for Chavez since June 2010 when he beat John Duddy.
"I felt good but I was hurt by inactivity. I couldn't keep our of range and it was a pretty tough fight. Lyell was a tough opponent and he took a lot of my punches, but we achieved a clear victory," Chavez Jr. said. "I'll be well prepared for my next fight, which should be for the title."
The next fight could come against unbeaten German Sebastian Zbik (30-0, 10KOs), who holds the WBC middleweight crown.
"We're working to make the title fight in late May," confirmed Fernando Beltran, president of Zanfer and co-promoter to Chavez.
