Former WBA heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev (29-2-1, 18KOs) rejected the widely circulated rumors that he's planning to fight Tyson Fury (19-0, 14KOs) in the month of November. Chagaev returns this Saturday night against journeyman Werner Kreiskott (12-18-1, 8KOs). The fight takes place at the Koenig Pilsener Arena in Oberhausen as part of the Felix Sturm-Daniel Geale undercard.
Chagaev is currenty a promotional free agent after parting ways with Universum and he doesn't have an actual trainer. There was a conversation about a potential fight with Fury, but that's all it was at this point. Until Chagaev has his personal business in order he's not thinking about Fury.
"There is nothing really [to these reports]. Last week I got a call from Tyson Fury's team, and on Saturday there were already reports that our fight will take place in November. This information is premature and not official. Negotiations have just begun. Tyson is interesting to me as an opponent, but until I find a new trainer - discussing something like this is premature. Fury is a serious opponent and I do not intend to go into a fight with him without a good [training camp]. One time I went into a fight [without a good camp], after learning about [the opponent] only a few days [before the date]. [Travis] Walker was a tough nut to crack and since then I'm always cautious," Chagaev said.
