As previously reported on BoxingScene.com, the World Boxing Council is planning to order a middleweight fight between Hugo Centeno and Jermall Charlo for the vacant interim-WBC title.

According to WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman, the fight is being ordered because the full WBC middleweight title is tied up - as champion Gennady Golovkin is currently negotiating a potential May rematch with Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.

Canelo and Golovkin fought to a controversial twelve round draw back in September, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Charlo is the mandatory challenger to the middleweight crown.

The last time Charlo (26-0, 20 KOs) was in action, he battered Jorge Sebastian Heiland back in July at the Barclays Center. It was Charlo's middleweight debut after vacating the IBF belt at 154-pounds to move up in weight.

Centeno (26-1, 14 KOs) has won two in a row, by knockout, since suffering a TKO loss to Maciej Sulecki in June 2016. Centeno knocked out undefeated Immanuwel Aleem in August.  

Eric Brown, who trains 'The Boss' Centeno would welcome a potential match-up against Charlo.

"We'd fight anybody out there in the middleweight division, "said Brown, earlier this week at the Wild Card Boxing Club.

"Hugo is just like the rest of those guys striving to be the best and at this point in his career we're willing to take on whoever they bring in front of us."

Brown expects a very competitive contest between the two fighters.

"I think it would be a very intense chess match," opined Brown. "They're both great boxers, they're both powerful, they both have a grittiness and a toughness about them that will make a very exciting fight."

As of now, there is no word if and when this pairing might take place.

"Not yet," said Brown. ''I know it's a fight that's out there. It's up to the powers that be to make it happen."
