WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch is backing his countryman David Haye to defeat WBA heavyweight champion Nikolai Valuev on Saturday night. He gives Haye a lot of credit for his speed and movement. When the two of them used to spar, Froch was unable to catch Haye with any punches. He said the bigger man was also the quicker man.
"He is a really fantastic, skilful fighter. When we used to box I couldn't lay a glove on him. He was taller and bigger than me, and just so skilful and quick. You have to acknowledge those skills," Froch told The Mirror .
Valuev is 7'2, and over 300-pounds. The largest champion in the history of the sport. Froch, like many others, views the chin of Haye as a major factor in the fight. He thinks Haye can find himself in serious trouble if Valuev is able to get to his chin.
"If David gets hit on the chin he's going to be in serious trouble. Valuev is slow and cumbersome, but he can punch like a mule so David has to be careful. But he can do this. He is quick and nimble enough to keep out of his way, and then out-hit him," Froch said.
