WBA featherweight champion Carl Frampton (23-0, 14 KOs) is hoping to eventually move up in weight to pursue a third divisional title.

Frampton moved up to featherweight last year and captured the WBA belt with a close, hard-fought twelve round decision over Leo Santa Cruz at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Currently in Las Vegas, Frampton is training with Shane McGuigan for his rematch with Santa Cruz - which is scheduled to take place at the MGM Grand on January 28.

At the moment the featherweight division is loaded with talent. Should he get past Santa Cruz, the next fight could potentially be against IBF champion Lee Selby, who is fighting on the undercard.

But the career goal for Frampton is one more divisional belt.

“I want to be a three-weight world champion,” he told Sky Sports. “That is the goal. It wasn’t necessarily at the start of my career, but when you reach targets you set new goals and Steve Collins is the only other Irishman to hold world titles in different divisions, so I want to stand alone.”

Frampton is very focused and motivated to beat Santa Cruz for a second time, and feels he might be capable of getting a knockout win in the second going.

To get the job done, Frampton is training like never before and came to Las Vegas very early to get adjusted.

“I’ve been working hard and sparring well and although I am 30, I feel I am getting better and if I take what I’ve been doing into the gym so far in with me, I am going to win the fight convincingly,” Frampton said.

“We’ll pretty much be in Las Vegas for a month. When I was over last time, when I fought him in New York, we went over a month early and we don’t fix what’s not broken. We are going to do it again; get used to the time difference, just get used to the surroundings and just soak it all up, enjoy myself when I’m out there for the big fight.”
