Carlos Canizales proved Lu Bin wasn’t ready for a world title shot in just Bin’s second pro fight Saturday night.

Venezuela’s Canizales beat Bin by 12th-round knockout in their 108-pound title bout in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Canizales (21-0-1, 17 KOs) dropped Bin once apiece in the 11th and 12th rounds on his way to winning on the Manny Pacquiao-Lucas Matthysse undercard at Axiata Arena.

Referee Gustavo Padilla stopped their fight with just one second remaining in it.

The 23-year-old Bin, a 2016 Olympian from China, slipped to 1-1 (1 KO).

Canizales made the first defense of the World Boxing Association world light flyweight title he won in his last fight. The 25-year-old Canizales won that title by out-pointing Japan’s Reiya Konishi (16-1, 6 KOs) by unanimous decision in their 12-round fight March 18 in Kobe, Japan.

The champion had Bin in trouble just after the halfway mark of the 12th round. He landed three straight jabs and then two right hands before Bin held Canizales to stop him from punching temporarily.

Then Canizales cracked Bin with a straight right hand that knocked him down with 11 seconds to go in their fight.

Canizales scored a knockdown with 42 seconds remaining in the 11th round because the ropes held up Bin after Canizales connected with a right hand. Bin also began bleeding from a cut over his right eye in the 11th round.

Canizales applied pressure in the beginning of the ninth round and landed a right hand that moved Bin backward. Canizales connected with another right hand just after the halfway point of the ninth.

Bin backed Canizales into a corner and landed a straight left hand early in the eighth round.

Bin hit Canizales with a straight left hand when there was just over a minute to go in the seventh round.

Canizales continued to pressure on Bin throughout the fifth and sixth rounds, when he landed body shots and occasional right hands.

Canizales clipped Bin with a straight right hand with about 50 seconds left in the fourth round. Bin spent much of the fourth round backing away from Canizales.
