Mexican superstar Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez has beaten a who's who of British boxer in his career.

During the course of his career, from junior middleweight to super middleweight, Canelo has beaten a variety of British fighters - including Ryan Rhodes, Matthew Hatton, Amir Khan, Billy Joe Saunders, Callum Smith, Liam Smith, and Rocky Fielding.

And on Saturday night in Mexico, Canelo will defend the undisputed super middleweight crown against mandatory challenger John Ryder.

Like Canelo's past British opponents, Ryder is a huge underdog.

Canelo feels bad about constantly crushing the dreams of UK fans.

“I’m sorry to all the UK people, but I had to do it,” Canelo told Telegraph Sport

Canelo's dream is to fight in the UK.

There was talk of a UK title defense in 2023, but currently that doesn't appear to be happening.

“I’ve been thinking this for a long time. I would love to fight there, and believe me, it’s going to be soon,” Canelo said.

Promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom, who works with Canelo on a fight by fight basis, would love to place one of his fights in a UK stadium.

“The plan now with Saul is to box all around the world, [this] Saturday he will be boxing in front of 50,000 fans in his hometown of Guadalajara which was always a dream of his, and beyond that he would love to fight in the UK," Hearn said.

“And there would be nothing we would love more than to bring him to our national stadium for a huge fight in front of the British fight fans.”
