MGM Grand, Las Vegas, NV - Erislandy Lara drew the ire of Canelo Alvarez when he recently said that he would take the Mexican superstar to the Cuban School of Boxing and claimed that the Cuban style of boxing is superior to Mexico's style.
Alvarez, who hails from Jalisco, Mexico, was asked about Lara's comments today when he met with a group of reporters shortly after making his arrival at the MGM to kick off fight week.
The 24-year-old redhead praised the Cuban style and said that Cubans have proven that their style of fighting is successful but he said that it doesn't come close to matching up with the style of boxing that is taught in Mexico.
"The Cuban School of Boxing is a great school of boxing and without a doubt they have been very successful - but with all due respect, I sincerely believe that Mexican boxing, the Mexican School of Boxing, is way better than their school," said Alvarez.
