Guadalajara, Jalisco - Former champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (43-1-1, 31KOs) has his bags ready to fly tomorrow with his team to San Diego, California, where he will concentrate for six weeks to achieve a great physical shape for the fight with Cuba's Erislandy Lara (19-1-2, 12KOs) on July 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Canelo will head over with trainers/managers Chepo and Edison Reynoso.
"Lara is a tough lefty with great amateur experience, but having faced different styles of fighters makes me believe that I'll go unscathed. And if we factor in that I always prepare 100 percent, I'm sure that my career will continue to rise," Canelo said.
"It is true that I will face a world champion, but Erislandy Lara has no absolute title, and that's why I decided not to have it in the bout."
After being at odds with Mexican television network Televisa, Canelo says the two sides have buried the hatchet and they plan to resume their working relationship.
"Thankfully there has been a bridge of communication between Televisa and my company to make this happen," Canelo said.
