Liverpool's Callum Smith has made it to the Commonwealth Games semi-final stages. The 20-year-old defeated Carl Hind by a narrow margin, 4-3, and will definitely join brothers Paul, silver in 2002, and Stephen, gold in 2006, as a Commonwealth medallist. Callum revealed that he was inspired by the achievements of his siblings going into the Games and is confident that he can return from India with a gold medal.
“I take inspiration from my brothers because every tournament I go to they’ve been before so they can give me advice and tell me how to cope with it,” revealed Smith when speaking to Liverpool Daily Post.co.uk. “They just say take every fight as it comes and treat every fight as a final. If you lose you don’t get any second chances. They say treat every fight as a gold medal fight and now this next one is the gold medal fight which is great.
“There’s a bit of banter with my brothers, especially Paul who only got silver, but there’s not really any rivalry. I suppose there was more pressure on me coming here but I don’t really think about that. I want to bring a gold medal back to give it to my mum.”
