Reports that a deal has been reached for undefeated IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (35-0, 24 KOs) to defend against Diego Cháves (23-2-1, 19 KOs) would appear to be premature at this stage.
A source with knowledge of the situation informed BoxingScene.com that negotiations are ongoing, but nothing has been signed yet.
Cháves was most recently seen in the ring against current WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley last December in an entertaining bout which was declared a draw. Brook dispatched fellow Brit Frankie Gavin in six rounds in his last ring outing in May.
Brook is scheduled to return on October 24th in Sheffield. He was initially pegged to face Brandon Rios, but their respective sides were unable to reach an agreement on the terms.
