Mike Stafford, the trainer of WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (26-0, 22KOs), says his boxer will never fight WBC welterweight beltholder Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26KOs). Broner is often compared to Mayweather because of their similar fighting styles, their outgoing personalities, flashy ring entrances and both of them are advised by Al Haymon. Broner is a little more aggressive with his style, where as Mayweather is a little more defensive.
Stafford will not speculate on which of the two is the better fighter, and says the question will never be answered because the two of them will never share a ring.
"My thing on that is, Floyd is Floyd and Adrien is Adrien. They will never fight each other so you can never really tell [which of them is better]. You let Floyd be great in his era and then you have to let Adrien be great in his era. That's two different divisions. Adrien is a lightweight and Floyd is a welterweight," Stafford said.
"I don't do no comparisons. I knew Floyd when he was 13-years-old. He was great then. He was one of the first 16-year-old guys who won the golden gloves. He qualified for the Olympics at 17. There were some things that he was doing that Adrien wasn't doing, so you can't compare them. I'm a coach, that's for the media [to compare them]."
Broner admits Mayweather was a big influence to him and often refers to Floyd as his "big brother." He says "no amount of money" will make him fight Mayweather.
