On Monday night, BoxingScene's Salvador Rodriguez reported that Julio Cesar Chavez's fight against Bryan Vera will be pushed back to a later date because of a cut suffered while sparring. Shortly after the news broke BoxingScene.com spoke to a disappointed Vera to get an update on the situation.
"My manager is meeting with HBO about rescheduling so we will see what happens. This kid is a damn joke," Vera explained.
The Texas native said that he had been having a very strong training camp and was right on a schedule for the September 7th date. Even though a new date hasn't been determined for the fight, Vera is going to follow through with a planned sparring session tomorrow.
"Training has been going real good and I've been getting stronger and better each day. I'll be sparring tomorrow and I hope to hear officially what's going on," Vera told BoxingScene.com.
Vera vowed that the postponement won't change the outcome of the fight and said that Chavez will pay the price when the fight gets rescheduled and they finally step in the ring.
"I'm just going to stay ready and take his head off when (a rescheduled date) gets here," said Vera.
