While explosive and ruthless in the ring, Gervonta Davis comes across as a soft-spoken and benign young man. In his view, racking up the victories and laying out his competition is far more salient than simply bombastically shouting about his overall skills.

Thus far, Davis believes that he’s proven his worth. With world title reigns at 130, 135, and 140 pounds, the Baltimore native concludes that his abilities are second to none. However, despite his overall accolades and penchant for violent KO victories, Stephen “Breadman” Edwards is under the impression that the 28-year-old isn’t revered as much as he should be.

After carefully examining the current WBA “Regular” belt holder, Edwards doubles down. In short, not only does the renowned trainer believe that Davis is at the top of the lightweight food chain but as he scours the entire pugilistic landscape, he’s convinced that there aren’t many fighters on the planet who should be considered better.

“Gervonta Davis is one of the best fighters in the world,” said Edwards to BoxingScene.com. “He might not be taking the fights that the public wanna see him take but I’m just talking about straight ability. I’m talking about just straight ability, it’s not 10 better fighters in the world than him.”

Eager to get his 2023 schedule underway, Davis has already lined up his next two ring appearances. First up, the powerful southpaw will take on Hector Luis Garcia on January 7th before moving into a showdown against Ryan Garcia at some point in mid-April.

In both instances, Davis (27-0, 25 KOs) figures to be a sizable favorite. However, with two dangerous opponents standing before him, Edwards urges Davis to keep his eyes on the prize.

Having watched the extremely popular combatant over the years, Edwards admits that he’s become both an admirer and a fan. In totality, after dissecting the many facets of his game, Edwards is now under the impression that Davis is more than just power.

“Everything is underrated. His jab is underrated, everybody says he’s all left-hand, his right-hand is underrated. His poise is underrated, his conditioning is underrated, his chin is underrated. That boy can fight, he can go.”
