This weekend’s edition of Boxeo Telemundo has become far more than just a fall season premiere.

An already established main event between unbeaten Yomar Alamo and Antonio ‘Toño’ Moran (24-4. 17KOs) now carries far greater stakes, at least for the winner. The 140-pound regional title fight kicks off the fall season of the long-running Telemundo boxing series, live from Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee, Fla. (Friday, Telemundo, 11:35pm ET).

Whomever prevails in Friday’s headliner will be groomed for a showdown versus the winner of another super lightweight regional title fight which takes place one night later. Unbeaten Puerto Rican knockout artist Danielito Zorrilla (12-0, 10KOs) faces Mexico’s Jesus Antonio Perez (23-3, 18KOs), with the idea that the winners of this weekend’s action–with both bouts branded as part of the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Tournament of Champions—collide in the first quarter of 2020.

“This is a special night for the people of Puerto Rico, as Kissimmee is a second home to many outside the Island,” notes Felix "Tutico" Zabala, president Of All Star Boxing, Inc. “We look forward to another great night of boxing with a main event that promises fireworks.”

Alamo (17-0, 12KOs) has provided plenty of thrills in his previous Telemundo-televised bouts to date, with Friday marking his fourth series appearance including his third straight at this very venue. The 24-year old from Caguas, Puerto Rico has become a crowd favorite since debuting in the region last summer.

He might have to settle for second place on the night in terms of overall relevance. As part of the WBO’s involvement a ceremony honoring Amanda Serrano, the record-breaking titlist from Brooklyn, New York by way of Carolina, P.R. Serrano has claimed major titles in seven weight divisions, more than any female fighter in history as well as any boxer—regardless of gender—to come out of Puerto Rico.

Her most recent conquest came in September, scoring a 10-round decision over Brooklyn-born Heather Hardy to reclaim the featherweight crown. The feat will be commemorated by the WBO on fight night, with Serrano to be on hand both in Florida on Friday as well as Saturday’s show in Puerto Rico.

Alamo has no problem sharing the spotlight.

“It is an honor for me to be the headliner in this great WBO event,” notes Alamo, who is being groomed for a title run in 2020. “Friday night will be a big day for Puerto Rico to celebrate both Amanda Serrano and my second (regional) title defense.”
