In a recent interview, Bernd Boente, the manager of WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (44-2, 40 KOs), discussed how the year-end elections in Kiev will determine the future of Vitali's involvement in boxing. Vitali's political career is taking off and the 40-year-old boxer is the favorite, according to several polls, to become the next mayor of Kiev.
For years Vitali has managed to shuffle boxing and politics without a conflict between the two areas. In fact, Boente believes this only benefited Vitali.
"For Vitali this is simply necessary. He starts to get bored when he concentrates exclusively on a single subject. You see, for many years now he's been very successful in these areas. And I believe that he will continue to be a success [in either area] in the future," Boente said.
Before a possible post as next mayor of Kiev, Boente believes Vitali will see action at least once or twice.
