Bernd Boente, the manager of WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (44-2, 40 KOs), admits the year-end elections in Kiev will determine the future of Vitali in the sport of boxing.
Last Saturday night in Munich, Vitali won a twelve round unanimous decision over British contender Dereck Chisora. During the hard-fought win, he suffered a minor left shoulder injury and expects his next fight to take place in September. Vitali, 40, hopes to resume his training activities in eight weeks.
If Vitali becomes the mayor of Kiev, his career as a boxer will probably come to a close at the end of the year or early next year.
"It depends on the elections by the end of the year. For example, if Vitali is elected as the mayor of Kiev, then there will be no further fights because you can't be mayor and heavyweight champion of the world at the same time. We'll see how the election goes. It's a long way to go, to know exactly what the future in 2013, 2014 is," Boente said,
