While most boxing fans would like to see Manny Pacquiao move up in weight to challenge WBA/WBO/IBF lightweight champion Juan Diaz, it probably won't happen in the near future.
In an interview with Balita, Promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank said that he would like to match Pacquiao with WBC lightweight champion David Diaz, if Manny decides to move up in weight. Arum promotes both Pacquiao and Diaz, while rival Don King promotes Juan Diaz, who holds almost all of the major titles at the weight.
If Pacquiao rules out a move to 135, Arum would like him to fight the winner of Juan Manuel Marquez-Rocky Juarez on Nov. 3 or Joan Guzman-Humberto Soto on Nov. 17.
“Does he want to stay and fight at a 130 pounds or does he want to go to a 135? If he goes to a 135, I’d like to match him with David Diaz, the WBC champion, and if stays at a 130, then he can fight the winner of Marquez and Juarez or the winner of Soto-Guzman. Take a couple of weeks to regroup, then we’ll sit and talk,” Arum said.
