BoxingScene.com has been informed by Sean Gibbons, who advises Orlando Salido, that a fight between his boxer and fellow Mexican, WBC super featherweight world champion Miguel Berchelt, has been signed, sealed and delivered for December 9th.
"Both fighters have agreed to the fight and HBO agreed to televise it and what you have here is real Mexican boxing, two of the top 130-pounders in the world going at it," said Gibbons on Thursday afternoon, while in Mexico, to BoxingScene.
As for the venue, while Los Angeles has been talked about, it looks like this event could be staged in Las Vegas.
"I've been told by Zanfer, who is our promoter that there's a very good chance it's going to Las Vegas. So I'm very happy because being that I'm a Las Vegas native basically for the last twenty years this is the type of thing our city could use with the terrible tragedy," said Gibbons, referencing the recent mass shooting of concert goers a few weeks ago.
"Orlando is very fond of the city and just to bring an event like this in December is great for everything, to show that Vegas doesn't back down from sickos how are out there shooting."
Word is that the Mandalay Bay could host this fight.
Berchelt (32-1, 28 KO's) has had a banner 2017, winning the title from Francisco Vargas back in late January and then defending it against former titlist, Takashi Miura over the summer.
Meanwhile the veteran warhorse, Salido (44-13-4, 31 KO's) defeated Aristides Perez in seven rounds back on May 27th in what has been his only appearance in the ring since his classic battle against Vargas back in June of 2016 that ended up in a draw.
Coincidentally, the World Boxing Council has recently ordered a final eliminator between Vargas and fellow former world champion Jhonny Gonzalez, also of Mexico.
