After his surprising two round knockout over Argenis Mendez to snatch the world super featherweight championship of the International Boxing Federation (IBF), unbeaten Cuban Rances Barthelemy (20-0, 13 KOs) wants to unify against the champion of the World Boxing Organization (WBO), also unbeaten, Miguel Angel "Mickey" Garcia (33-0, 28 KOs).
Appearing on ESPN Deportes Radio, Barthelemy publicly asked Garcia for a unification encounter - should Garcia come through in his upcoming title against Mexican Juan Carlos Burgos on January 25 at Madison Square Garden in New York. Barthelemy wants to prove which of them is the best fighter at 130-pounds.
Also, Barthelemy has a fight of his own to deal with. Mendez has filed an appeal to overturn the result of the KO loss. When the referee failed to separate the fights at the close of the second, the Cuban slugger clocked Mendez with two shots, that came after the bell, and the referee counted Mendez out.
