Former champion Marco Antonio Barrera is confidently backing countryman Saul "Canelo" Alvarez to defeat WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto in their planned November fight.
Cotto-Canelo is going to take place on a date in November, either the 7th or 21st, on HBO Pay-Per-View. The MGM Grand and the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas are the two venues seen as the frontrunners. But Madison Square Garden in New York City is also attempting to grab the fight with a huge offer on the table.
Everything appears to be wrapped up by both sides. They are only left with trying to determine the date, location and the venue.
Barrera says everything is on Canelo's side to win the contest and he believes the young Mexican fighter will come through with a proper game plan.
"For me, Canelo wins this without any problem, because of his speed and the manner in which he operates in the ring. While it is true that Cotto is viewed as being very strong, and big [at the weight], he no longer moves [in the ring] like he did in the past. Canelo have a very great chance [to win] by executing a good plan of work," Barrera said to ESPN Deportes.
