Former two division world champion Badou Jack (22-1-3, 13 KOs) would love a crack at the current WBO king, Eleider Alvarez (24-0, 12 KOs).
Last month in Atlantic City, Alvarez scored a sensational seventh round knockout over heavily favored Sergey Kovalev to capture the WBO world title.
Jack was in action back in May, when he fought to a close points draw with WBC world champion Adonis Stevenson.
Ironically, Alvarez was in line to fight the Stevenson-Jack winner - but the outcome had no clear winner.
Alvarez became the mandatory challenger to Stevenson in November of 2015.
From that moment, he's been attempting to chase down a shot at Stevenson with no success.
Alvarez was scheduled to face Stevenson earlier year, but the champion passed him over and instead wanted Jack.
Eventually the WBC had seen enough and ordered the winner of Stevenson-Jack to face Alvarez.
Not willing to wait any longer, Alvarez accepted the opportunity to fight Kovalev instead.
Stevenson is now heading towards a rematch with new mandatory challenger Oleksandr Gvozdyk.
And Alvarez is slated to face Kovalev in a rematch.
But if that rematch doesn't happen, Jack is ready to face Alvarez.
“That’s a possibility [fighting Eleider Alvarez]. I think he’s going to have to do a rematch with Kovalev, if not I would love that fight,” Jack told Boxing News. “I know him, we sparred, he’s a good boxer, a pretty good boxer.”
Where does that leave Jack?
According to the once-beaten boxer, his promoter Floyd Mayweather is currently working on a "big fight" in the coming future.
“Floyd [Mayweather, his promoter] is working on a big fight. So we’ll see what’s next, if it’s the Stevenson rematch, if it’s one of the other champions. Floyd always makes it happen. Anyone, it doesn’t matter to me as long as they get me a big fight,” Jack continued.
