Comments Thread For: Badou Jack: I'd Love a Fight With Eleider Alvarez

Former two division world champion Badou Jack (22-1-3, 13 KOs) would love a crack at the current WBO king, Eleider Alvarez (24-0, 12 KOs). Last month in Atlantic City, Alvarez scored a sensational seventh round knockout over heavily favored Sergey Kovalev to capture the WBO world title.

Badou Jack vs. Marcus Browne! Make it happen! Alvarez will face Kovalev, the only question is what network? HBO has the right to match any offer, but I'm sure Showtime will make a serious bid! Arum/ESPN might throw their hat in the game too!

Badou Jack might not be the most skilled out there but he's definitley my favorite fighter at the moment, coming back from a KO loss after which everybody said he wasn't **** only to shock everyone and become a champion and not only that but to become the best 168 pounder in the world by fighting and imo beating everyone at the top.

Then moving up, winning a title and having a very close fight with the champion are huge overachievements for that guy who never stopped trying, very strong willed individual. I don't think he can beat Alvarez or Bivol or even Kovalev but I wouldn't be surprised if he did or at least gave them all a run for their money.

I thought he didn't beat Stevenson but he won the second half of the fight 5-1 and would likely win a rematch.

I was disappointed in Jacks performance against the no backbone, no ambition, Stevenson - I would have like Badou to step back from those inside wrangles and just unload with some combinations, but it seemed Stevenson was too awkward for him, and he didn't really seem himself.

I hope Gvozdyk decapitates Duckinson - he's a waste of space, and with him out of the picture we have a real healthy looking 175-pound division.

I'd put Jack in with Smith Jr at this point - a fight with enough risk, but a fight he can win, and gain some more confidence - Alvarez is a big, imposing LHW. Tough job putting that guy down.

Remember too that Jack vacated the WBA 175 pound title to avoid a fight with Bivol, in favour of a fight with Stevenson - then came rumours Bivol was using PED's, which I don't or would rather not give credence to.

My take (perhaps biased, as I like both fighters), is that Jack saw Stevenson as the easier chicken to pluck than Bivol), and I think Bivol may have done a number on Jack if they fought.

These two have similarities in that they are good in many areas, not exceptional in any one thing though. I thought of them as being around equal but after their last fights, I'm favoring Alvarez a little. He seems more like a guy who can rise to the occasion when necessary whereas we know Jack has a definite ceiling.

A big fight, probably with Dmitry Bivol. Jack is ranked #1 WBA.

Are we sure that the "post-Ward" Kovalev can beat Jack especially since Jack has just shown us that he can navigate through a big puncher (Stevenson)?
