Top Rank CEO Bob Arum was in a jovial mood after watching after watching Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. successfully defend his WBC middleweight title against Marco Antonio Rubio last Saturday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas where Arum touched on a number of topics including Chavez's future.
Arum praised Chavez for his performance in the ring and compared him to his father, whom many regard as the greatest fighter Mexico has ever produced.
"For me to see Julio's performance really gave me a lot of pride. I remember the great performances of his father and you can see that the apple didn't fall far from the tree. The Chavez's have a set of cajones like nobody else," stated Arum.
The 80 year old Hall of Fame promoter plans on having Chavez return to the ring on June 2nd, likely in Texas and on HBO. The opponent being mentioned is Andy Lee. Arum also said that he thinks Chavez will be ready for Sergio Martinez, who is widely regarded as the best middleweight in the world, sooner rather than later.
"You saw a guy who started as a kid become a man. In a few more months and a little better training camp where he isn't just taking off the weight, he will beat any middleweight in the world. Any middlweight. Martinez, Margarito, Cotto, any of them," exclaimed Arum.
